Fanfiction is one of those parts of the jrock fandom that everyone knows about, but no one quite wants to admit to. The fact of the matter is that Dir en grey fanfiction exists and is enjoyed by many fans, and yes, most of these fanfictions feature pairings of band member x band member. Another fact is that there are many stereotypes setup by fanfiction authors of old and have been carried through to modern times, and unfortunately, can be grotesquely inaccurate. Shinya is no exception.

The ideal Shinya stereotype is that of a young, shy, quiet innocent. The fact that he is the baby of the band is exploited, as is the teasing he endures. He's been groomed to take the roll of the stereotypical "uke" or "bottom". He is often portrayed as a modest, blushing virgin, or the emotionless, cold as stone prude, or both. He's usually the prey of the lust of a more masculine band member, hardly ever the predator.

This of course, is just a stereotype and, as any stereotype, is mostly fiction based on maybe one or two facts and a vast number of exaggerations. Also, like any stereotype, it's horribly outdated and there are those who don't believe in it, and have ventured outside of the very limited box that's been set up for his character in favor of a more accurate version of the beloved drummer, based more on observation of how he presents himself in interviews and backstage footage as opposed to a stage image.
